United Utilities contract

Cumbria Waste Group has won two new contracts to provide waste collection and recycling services to the UK's largest listed water company.

The services will be provided at 60 sites operated by United Utilities across Cumbria, ranging from offices to waste water and water treatment plants.

As part of the contract Cumbria Waste Group (CWG) has already undertaken a waste audit on behalf of United Utilities to quantify the amount and types of waste being generated by the organisation.

The information gathered in this audit has helped to identify current waste practices and how they can be improved.

John Walmesley, CWG's Collections & Recycling Director, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded these contracts by United Utilities.

"The company is seeking to increase recycling and reduce waste management costs, so our focus will be on maximising recycling and diverting as much waste as possible from landfill.

"Through the waste audit we have already identified ways in which waste can be more effectively and efficiently managed and working in partnership with United Utilities we are looking forward to helping the company achieve its environmental objectives."

Some 1,000 tonnes of waste per year will be collected by CWG on behalf of United Utilities. CWG will use its network of waste facilities across the county to process the waste.
